Current published NZ guidance places many professionally delivered kitchens around $25,000 to $60,000, with premium or structurally complex projects above that. A cosmetic refresh can cost less; custom joinery, stone, premium appliances and layout changes can lift the total quickly.
Treat those figures as a feasibility check. A site-specific quote still needs dimensions, selections and clarity about which trades and owner purchases are included.
Where the money usually goes
Cabinetry and joinery are often the largest package. Benchtops, appliances, plumbing, electrical work, flooring, splashbacks, painting, demolition and project management then build around it.
- Retaining the existing service locations usually reduces plumbing and electrical changes.
- Standard cabinet modules generally cost less than fully bespoke joinery.
- Stone thickness, edge details and cut-outs affect more than the visible material choice.
- Appliances may require new circuits, ventilation, cabinetry clearances or plumbing.
Compare the same kitchen scope
Confirm whether demolition, disposal, making good, painting, flooring, appliances, design, consent and temporary facilities are included. Check the assumed hardware, cabinet construction, benchtop area and installation scope.
A low cabinetry allowance or excluded trade package can make one proposal appear cheaper while leaving the homeowner to organise the missing work.
Resolve decisions before final pricing
Before requesting a firm quote, settle the layout, appliance schedule, cabinet finish, benchtop category and major service movements. If a wall may be structural, resolve that question early rather than pricing both possibilities vaguely.
A clear kitchen brief should also say what stays, who supplies appliances and whether the home will remain occupied.
